Activity 3: I Have A Dream
Describe the problem that black men ad women had during the 1950's to the 1960's.
What did Rosa Parks do about the problem?
How did others react?
At this time, there were laws that kept black and white people separated - they went to different schools, used different toilets and even sat in different parts of a bus. They ate in different areas of a restaurant. This was called segregation. With these type of laws there were many protests against them. Joining these protests was an African American women named Rosa Parks. In 1955 Rosa PArks boarded a bus in Alabama and because of segregation all the seats ment for black people were taken up so she decided she would sit in the white section of the bus. But on one of the stops she refused to give up her seat on the bus to a white passenger. This brave action that Rosa Parks made history and changed the way that African Americans (people of colour) got treated in America.
