Week 1.
Day 2: Up in the air 


What are the similarities and differences between Jean Batten and Amelia Earhart?
Write the comparisons and differences between these two women.

For this activity I choose to display the differences and similarities between Jean Batten and Amelia Earhart like this.

I wonder what the differences and similarities between them are?

Here is my descriptions of them both, and the similarities:

Jean was born in 1909 15th of September in Rotorua. She took               
her first solo flight in 1930. In November 1935 Jean Batten became
 the first women to fly herself across the South Atlantic. In October
1936 she went one step further and and made the first ever direct flight
from England to New Zealand. In letters dated 8 November 1982 Batten
 advised her publisher of her new address. This was the last anyone ever
heard of her. Her whereabouts remained unknown until September 1987,
when it was revealed that she had died in Majorca on 22 November 1982.
She had been bitten by a dog, and refused medical support she died need-
lessly from a pulmonary abscess.

Similarities
Amelia Earhart and Jean Batten were both around at the same time. They both set many records, they both were female pilots! Jean and Amelia both became authors and wrote their own books. They are both famous for their solo flights! In 1935 Amelia and Jean shared the honer of the International Harmon Trophy for their stellar individual work!

Amelia Earhart - WikipediaAmelia was born on July 24 1897 in the US. Amelia disappeared on   July 2, 1937, she was an American aviation pioneer and author. Earhart was the first women pilot  to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean. She set many records and helped an organization for female pilots.She sold some bestselling books about about her flying experience. In 1928, Earhart became the first ever women passenger to cross the Atlantic by air plane, accompanying pilot Wilmer Stultz. Which made her a celebrity!!!
