30.04.20 Short story starters

30.04.20
I have been writing some short story's this afternoon and I would like to share them with you here are some examples of my work, in the comments write which short story was your favourite.

Cats Eyes
In the inky blackness of the shadows, she blended in perfectly. Her saucer-like eyes and sleek whiskers were all that could be seen. She was delibritly hiding; her colour and keen sight were her greatest allies. What she had glimpsed at the other side of the candlelit room was troubling, and arching her back, she perpared to move in an insant.

Circle Of Flames
It was the smell of smoke that drew him towards the door....... When he reached it,  a blanket of grey, wispy smoke crept out from underneath, crawling over his shoes like a colony of ants.  Thrusting the door open, he was hit by a wall of intense heat. In the center of the room was a circle of fire. The deadly, golden flames danced into the air as they devoured the wooden floor. Panic set in. What had caused the fire? What could he do to stop it?

The Sunflower
Lucy had only planted the seeds minutes earlier. Now, it was growing in front of her eyes! The earth began to tremble as the sunflower grew thicker and thicker, taller and taller. With no sign of stopping, the plant seemed to be reaching up towards the sun. She held on tightly, not daring to look at the earth disappearing behind her.

The Greatest Storm
The wind howled menacingly like a wolf at a full moon. Lightning licked across the evil sky; a serpents tounge tormenting the clouds. The earth began to shatter..........

Raining Diamonds
It blazed across the sky like a shooting star, lighting up the countryside for miles around, trailing behind it a tail of brilliant blue light. People gazed nervously out of their bedroom windows, marveling at the beautiful and mysterious object hurtling by. In the morning, as the dust began to settle, it became clear what had fallen from the heavens............... The diamond was vast! It was the size of a fully grown, adult blue whale. Glistening in the morning sunlight, the diamond reflected powerful beams of blinding light in all directions like a lighthouse. Crowds began to gather............

The Jefferson's House
When the Jefferson family was out, their house came alive with activity. Every morning, when Mr and Mrs Jefferson headed off to work, and their children ran along to the bus stop to catch their ride to school, the signal for  " all clear" would sound, and out of the wood work the little people came.......

Star Gazer
As an astronomer, Peter believed he had the best job in the world! Ever since he was a boy, Peter had been fascinate with stars, planets, moons, comets and galixies. Any celestual object that he has witnessed had Peter enraptured. As he stood alone on the frozen surface of the lake, wrapped up well against the bitterly cold wind, Peter glimpsed something extradinary through his telescope. It was in moments like these that Peter felt truly alive.....

The Troll
Thump! He slammed his enormous, grass-covered foot into the middle of the road, sending shock wave of dust in all directions. With a load grunt, the troll wrenched the entire, fully tiled roof off a nearby holiday home, with owners peering helplessly and frightened out of the downstairs window. He didn't mean any harm, but he just couldn't help himself......

The Shadow
If you look very closely at night, as the mist disappears, the shadow still stands there guarding his home. No one has ever seen him, only his shadow. His boat travels silently up and down the river every night. High in the tree, the door remains shut, lit only by a single light. No visitors are seen, no noises ever heard, only the slight creaking of the wooden path to and from the tree. Then one night, everything changed. The shadow was gone and left in its place a.........

Watch one of the Code.org videos and go through the levels of coding. It said to put a picture of your final shape but that wouldn't work so I'm going to put a picture of my certificate of completion.  This activity was a bit hard because sometimes you wish it could tell you step by step how to do it but its ok. I really enjoyed this activity, my certificate is down below.

Activity 2: Overcome Adversity

For this activity I have chosen a challenging thing that my mum had to overcome. I 2018 when I was at my dads my mum was trying to move a peice of furniture and ended up hurting her back really bad. She couldn't move it and my nana who lives next door called an ambulance. My mum couldn't move her back she just laid in that hospital bed for ages. She missed our christmas trip to Motuaka. Apparantly she had an infection between the discs of her spine. She had to have a line of antibiotics into her heart, she had to get taught how to care for herself with the antibiotics. Her muscle had all deteriated, and ended up walking like a 90 year old, she then attended a physio. After a matter of months she could walk without feeling in pain. The bandage over my mums arm in the photo is where the medicine is put into her-------------------------------------------->
This photo was taken when we went to the movies after she got cleared to leave the hospital.

Day 2: Through Careful Observation

Chose one of the two pictures and describe it to us.  When I look at it what can I see? Study and observe the painting closely. The picture I chose is in the top right hand corner of the blog. Below is my description.

This painting is beautiful! The black and the white contrast really well, if you look close enough you can see that the picture is the same on both sides.  But where the birds are, its inverted. The left half of the painting is white with shades of black and the right side is black with shades of white. If you look closely at the birds you can see that some of the black birds wing fits just in the white ones tail. This picture is extrordinary, I love it!

29.04.20 Anzac cookies

29.04.20
Today I made Anzac cookies with my Nana. We followed the recipe and they tasted delicous, the only thing was that when they baked they didn't go thin the baked into a big half a ball. Even though they baked into a ball they tasted delicous! Crispy on the outside and like dough on the inside. Below there is a picture of them once they came out of the oven and a picture of the recipe I used. Please comment down below if you like Anzac cookies or have ever made them.

29.04.20
I have been writing some short story's this afternoon and I would like to share them with you here are some examples of my work, in the comments write which short story was your favourite.

Creature From The Deep
It came from the sea, calmly at first. An enormous, Slithiring tentacle slowly oozing its way over the top of the sea wall, exploring the metal and concrete shapes with suckers the size of your front door . Then, as more and more people came, and shreiks and cries of alarm filled the air, the creature became angry. All hell broke loose....... In an almighty tangle of limbs and water, buildings and people, the beast came violently exploding out of the frothy water. The normally sturdy metal supports of the buildings groaned under the extreme weight of gigantic tentacles crushing hem. Panic! Complete panic set in. Everyone wondered. But where had the creature come from? What did it want? How could anybody stop it? There wasn't any time for people to think. Only to run.....

Controlling The Weather
Ever since she was little, Emily could control the weather. Whenever she felt sad it would rain. When she was happy the sun was out, if she felt angry it would be boiling hot outside. If Emily was confused it would be cloudy and if she had an idea lightning struck....

The Glass House
Silently, Sarah pressed the switch and took a deep breath. Colours filled the house as beams of light hit the coloured panes of glass. It was just as she hoped for, just as she had imagined. Carefully, turned  full circle to take in the rainbow world she had created...

Empty Boats
Crystal clear waters were home to the vast collection of vessels. If it wasn't for the peeling paint and faded fishing nets, you couldn't tell that these boats had years of history hidden in their beams. I breathed deeply, filling my lungs with the fresh air that surronded me. I looked carefully at the biggest of the boats and my mind began to wander. Who owned it? Where had it sailed to? What sort of memories were hidden amongsest the ropes and nets?

Field Of Flames
It seemed like and impossible task. Keeping each lantern alight took focus and determination from the whole army of volenteers. Waves of orange and yellow danced in the breeze as the sparkling sea of light took over the horizon.  As far as the eye could see, flickering flames shone upon this special place. They were almost ready. It was almost time.....

The Life Of A Snail
Delicous. It was simply delicous. She very rarely came across a strawberry, but when ever she did she always made the most of it. Chewing through the sweet, juicy flesh, she savoured every mouthful. Now, though, she was full, and slowly eased herself (shell and all) out of the hole she had made in the side of the strawberry. It was time to explore another part of the garden....

The Strange Ship
Shrouded in a veil of sea mist, the ghoustly galleon through the black ocean waves. One minute you saw her, the next you didn't. She was like no other ship. Blink, and you missed her....

Anzac Day

Anzac Day is a day of remembrance that takes place on the 25th of April. It is held in memory of the Australian and New Zealand army corps (Anzac's), many of whom lost their lives in battle. Here are a few facts about Anzac Day with some pictures a the bottem,  and about the battle of Gallipoli.

The Battle of Gallipoli
The Australian and New Zealand army corps landed at  Gallipoli on the 25th of April 1915. This was the first major war for these two countries. The plan was to defeat Turkey as quickly as possible in a quick battle; however, the battle lasted eight months. At the end of 1915, the Anzac forces were rescued from the beach. Generals and commanders were worried about the high numbers of cassulties as well as the coming winter and they started to plan a retreat. Many were killed during the battle of Gallipoli. Over 8000 Australian soldiers and more than 2500 New Zealander soldiers lost there lives. Even though the mission was not sucessful, the bravery and determination shown by the Anzac's have made it an important moment in Australian history.

How is Anzac Day celebrated
The first Anzac Day was commemerated on the 25th of April 1916. Since then, a parade is often organised by local towns and major cities. Origanally, Anzac soldiers marched in the parades while residents attended and watched, waved and cheered. Another popular tradition is the dawn service. This is ceromony which includes the raising of flags, the reading of relevant passages and a performance of the last post. This is a solemn occasion which the Anzacs are remembered and people often take time to reflect on the sacrafice they made. This is a sign of respect and recognition for the nature of this event.

This boy was in the war at 13 years old and died trying to save his country.

2. Pepsi vs Coke.  I personally like Pepsi over Coke. Pepsi and Coke both taste different but pretty much taste the same.

Whittaker's wins chocolate giant court stoush - NZ Herald

3. Cadbury vs Whittikar's. I personally like Whittikar's chocolate over Cadbury's, But Cadbury's has more flavours and textures. But I like the taste of Whitikar's.

The Isle Of The Lost is a really cool book it's based off old fairy tales and there is a movie like this book Descendant's. Write a short story about anything you want. The story can be about anything you wish but the catch is for it to get full points it needs to be 10 sentences long.
Here is my short story I wrote:

Professor Plum.
Professor Plum had been locked away I his labratory for days now, barely even stopping to eat or drink. He sat there thinking about what he could add to his potion to finally finish it. He rested his left arm on the dusty pile of books scattered across the front of his  desk. Then with his right hand he gently flicked the conical flask in front of him. The red and orange liqud inside coughed and sputtered as the heat from the Bunsen burner exiteted it from below. He tried to switch potion's here and there but it wouldn't work. Professor Plum wiped his weary eyes; Only the exitement of finally finishing the potion kept him awake. He promised himself that he wouldn't leave his labratory till his potion was completed. Just a few more hours then it would be ready.....

Who do you think should take Kate's place and why?

To replace Kate Shepard on the $10 bill I think should be, Jacinda Ardern. During these surcamstunce's I think she should be put on the new $10 bill. I think Jacinda is a good female to represent for  New Zealand, and I think she embody's Kate Shepard. Not only as she dealt with the covid-19 and the Christchurch mosque shooting, and she was nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize. It means a lot to get nominated for a Nobel Peace prize even if you don't win it's crazy if you get nominated.  In conclusion I think Jacinda Ardern would be the right female to be put onto a new $10 bill because she looks out for others and when I think of Jacinda Ardern I think of a strong independent women who is looking out for the lives of others.

Activity 3: I Have A Dream

Describe the problem that black men ad women had during the 1950's to the 1960's.
What did Rosa Parks do about the problem?
How did others react?

At this time, there were laws that kept black and white people separated - they went to different schools, used different toilets and even sat in different parts of a bus. They ate in different areas of a restaurant. This was called segregation. With these type of laws there were many protests against them. Joining these protests was an African American women named Rosa Parks. In 1955 Rosa PArks boarded a bus in Alabama and because of segregation all the seats ment for black people were taken up so she decided she would sit in the white section of the bus. But on one of the stops she refused to give up her seat on the bus to a white passenger. This brave action that Rosa Parks made history and changed the way that African Americans (people of colour) got treated in America.

Here are the 3 things I learnt from this site:

1.  School Strike 4 Climate is run by students of all ages from cities, towns from all over Australia and all have one goal. Which is the concern for the future of our planet.

2. That students in Australia are striking from school to demand politicons to take our planets future seriously, and treat like a crisis because that's what it is.

3. That the School Strike 4 Climate is school student-led, decentralised, grassroots, non-partisans, non-violent, mission focused, inclusive, ambitious, creative and an organization that will continue to grow.

Dear Jacinda Ardern, I am supposed to write a letter about an issue in the hope that you can solve it. I know for this paticular issue that its a little late but maybe for next time. If we ever have a covid-19 again before we go into quarintine maybe provide single parents with young children with like a babysitter. Because I keep hearing from my mum when she goes out to go to the supermarket that there's maybe one lady with a baby strapped to her and everyone in lines harassing her and trying to pick a fight, and that sometimes she cant even go inside. I feel that as our prime minister that you should do something about this in the hope if we ever have a covid-19 again that people will respect each other.  I've chosen this issue because I have a single mother but luckily we have my Nana and Grandad next door and we are one big bubble. But if they weren't next door I know mum would feel fine if I was watching my brother but if it was just my brother at home Mum wouldn't feel safe leaving him at home. So if we ever have a covid-19 again maybe assign special volenteer's to single parents with young children.
Thank you, from Georgia Swale

Summer Learning Journey
Week 2.
Day 1: Taking the lead

For this activity we have to figure out how old Jessa
Rogers was when she got NAIDOC Youth Of The
Year award.
How old was she?
Here is my reasearch:
Jessa Rogers was born on 7 April 1985 and got the NAIDOC Youth award on 9 July 2010. I worked out that she must of been 25 years  3 months and 2 days old all together 9224 days. I figured this out because I worked out the years months and days between her birth and when she got the NAIDOC award.
Thank you for reading this🙋
